LEARN HOW TO THROW ON THE WHEEL
On this 2 hour workshop we will cover how to center your clay, open and pull the walls up to shape your lump of clay into a functional pot.
By the end of the workshop we will clean up and choose the a maximum of 3 pieces to keep, if you want them glazed a fee of £10 is required.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE WORKSHOP?
Pots that have been made on the wheel may need to be trimmed by me next day when the clay is at leather hard stage. After this your work will be dryed
DRYING
All work must be dried slowly to avoid cracking of the clay, this process is dependent on size and thickness of work, it may take up to two weeks.
FIRST FIRING- bisque
Once the work is completely dry, I will load it in the kiln and run a firing cycle at 1000 degrees, the cycle takes up to 48 hours, once the kiln has cooled down, I will remove the work which will be ready for glaze application.
APPLYING THE GLAZE:
Once the work is bisque fired, I will apply the transparent glaze
SECOND FIRING - GLAZE CYCLE
Once the pieces are coated in glaze, I will load the kiln and run a glaze cycle.
During the cycle the glaze will melt on the work, the clay will vitrify and turning the pieces into ceramics. All the pieces will be dishwasher, microwave and food safe.
The cycle can take up to 48 hours and the kiln cannot be opened unless it has cooled down.
