3 HOUR TASTER WORKSHOP
On the 3h session students will have a try on 1/2 hand building techniques, throwing on the wheel and various surface decorating using a variety of tools and objects.
What to expect:
A nice relaxing 3h of pottery making at my home studio, facing a lovely garden and a pond!
The workshop is 3 hours long with a maximum of 4 participants.
Work you make on the day and will be finished by me at later stage, but please do follow few simple steps:
POTS THROWN ON THE WHEEL
Pots that have been made on the wheel need to be trimmed by me next day when the clay is at leather hard stage.
HAND BUILT WORK
Any work made with hand-built techniques like pinch pots or slabs should be completed on the day by the students and be ready to dry
DRYING
All work must be dried slowly to avoid cracking of the clay, this process is dependent on size and thickness of work, it may take up to two weeks.
FIRST FIRING- bisque
Once the work is completely dry, I will load it in the kiln and run a firing cycle at 1000 degrees, the cycle takes up to 48 hours, once the kiln has cooled down, I will remove the work which will be ready for glaze application.
APPLYING THE GLAZE:
Once the work is bisque fired, I will apply the glaze you have chosen by following the instructions on the form
SECOND FIRING - GLAZE CYCLE
Once the pieces are coated in glaze, I will load the kiln and run a glaze cycle at 1222 degrees Celsius.
During the cycle the glaze will melt on the work, the clay will vitrify and turning the pieces into ceramics. All the pieces will be dishwasher, microwave and food safe.
The cycle can take up to 48 hours and the kiln cannot be opened unless it has cooled down.
